Box Score SAN BERNARDINO (Oct. 26, 2014) -- Senior Day turned into a record-setting day for the Coyotes' women's soccer team, which defeated visiting San Francisco State 2-1 in double overtime Sunday afternoon at Coyote Premier Field.
Sophomore
Kiana Quarles delivered the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of play and that tally turned into CSUSB's 14th win of the year against just three defeats. No other team in program history has won as many games in a season.
The Coyotes clinched a CCAA Tournament berth with one game remaining in the regular season. The Coyotes could finish the year as high as second or as low as fifth when the seedings are determined following Thursday's game at Chico State.
Trailing 1-0 after SFSU scored in the 64th minute,
Kiersten Miller came through with a blistering shot with just a tad bit of luck.
The Carlsbad native controlled the ball on a pass from
Jasmine Williams just past the midfield stripe, and then delivered a wicked shot from about 30 yards. The ball traveled to the far right post and richocheted back to the left for the 1-1 tie.
The game remained that way for the next 30 minutes until Quarles got the ball from Williams and broke away from the pack with the no-doubter.
CSUSB outshot the Gators 20-7 including 4-0 in both OTs.
"Nice way to break the victory record for the girls,'' head coach
Travis Clarke said. "We did a nice job of creating momentum after they got their goal.''
The victory was CSUSB's fifth straight win.
Sophomore GK
Emily Whyte had three saves.
