Gagner helps Coyotes avoid shutout

Hawaii-Hilo defeats CSUSB, 2-1 in season opener

Box Score
HONOLULU Katie Gagner connected on an unassisted goal as time expired as the Coyotes were dealt a 2-1 loss to Hawaii-Hilo in the season opener Thursday afternoon.

Down 2-0, Gagner gave the Coyotes their only tally of the day off a shot deflected off the goal keeper. Gagner was in the right place at the right time in helping her team avoid the shutout.

Senior GK Chelsey Jones did not have a save in 90 minutes.

The Coyotes out-shot the Vulcans 9-4, including a 7-1 edge in the second, but it wasn't enough.

CSUSB also had four corner kicks, but could not solve UHH's Jenna Hufford, who had three saves.

CSUSB is off Friday and returns to play Saturday against Hawaii Pacific.
