Box Score LOS ANGELES – Three times the Coyotes knocked on the door of scoring against Cal State L.A. in Sunday's CCAA women's soccer game.
The fourth time, freshman
Paige Kang came through with the game-winning goal.
The Moreno Valley native scored off a rebound on a free kick in the game's 94
th minute in a 1-0 OT Coyotes' victory.
CSUSB improved to 6-2-1 overall, 4-1-1 CCAA, while CSULA fell to 3-4-1, 1-4-1.
The significance of the victory is notable as the Coyotes are off to their best start (through nine games) since the 2000 squad opened 7-2.
Kang had a pair of shots on goal and defender
Jill Wierzbicki and
Jasmine Williams each had one.
Senior GK
Chelsey Jones continued her climb in the all-time shutouts chart. The 1-0 victory was her 14
th career shutout and she needs three more to surpass the record of 17 held by Laura Lyons (2006-09).
CSUSB was out-shot 10-5 on the afternoon.
Kang's goal was her second of the season and her second game-winning goal. Earlier her goal defeated Cal State East Bay 1-0.
CSUSB returns to the road Friday when the Coyotes take on Chico State.
