Williams' early goal makes the difference

CSUSB shuts out Cal State Dominguez Hills, 1-0

Jasmine Williams provided the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over the Toros.
Box Score CARSON – Junior Jasmine Williams entered play with the Coyotes this fall after a record-setting career at Citrus College.

Williams came through Friday afternoon with her first goal of the season and it turned out to be the game's only goal in a 1-0 win for the Coyotes in CCAA play.

CSUSB (5-2-1 overall, 3-1-1 CCAA) got on the board in the 6th minute when Williams collected a soft rebound from the goal keeper and one-timed to the net.

Senior Chelsey Jones earned the victory with four saves and continued her climb up the career record charts. The shutout marked her fifth of the season and her 13th of her career.

She now ranks 3rd all-time and needs four more to tie Laura Lyons' record of 17 set from 2006-09.

"A hard fought win against a very good team,'' head coach Travis Clarke said. "Great to see Jasmine earn a goal in the early going and we defended well.''

The Coyotes totaled 10 shots with seven SOG. Freshman Kiana Quarles had four shots and Williams had three – all SOG.

CSUSB completes the weekend Sunday afternoon at Cal State L.A.
