Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – A perfect positioned shot by freshman
Kiana Quarles and a gift goal paved the way for the Coyotes, who defeated visiting Cal Poly Pomona 2-0 in CCAA women's soccer Friday at Premier Field.
The victory was CSUSB's fourth shutout of the season – all by senior GK
Chelsey Jones – and the Coyotes scored both goals in the first half.
Quarles scored her team-leading third goal on the year by being in the right place at the right time. Teammate
Carissa Kutkowski fired a shot at Broncos GK Sarah Rohman, who made the stop. But the Broncos GK could not cover up the ball and Quarles one-timed it past the GK's right side with a gentle shot in the 18
th minute.
Seven minutes later, a scrum in front of the Broncos' net forced the ball to a CPP player, who appeared to kick the ball back to the GK, but it was out of her reach and CSUSB scored on an own goal.
That two-goal difference created enough separation that the Coyotes were never threatened for the remainder of the contest.
Jones had five saves on the day and earned her 12
th career shutout.
Senior
Susan Ibarra led the Coyotes in shots with two – both SOGs.
CSUSB (4-2 overall, 2-1 CCAA) returns to Coyote Premier Field on Sunday against always-difficult UC San Diego.
CPP is 3-2, 1-2.
