Coyotes' season ends in sweep

CSUSB finishes 18-36 overall, 12-24 CCAA

ARCATA -- The Coyotes' softball season came to an end Saturday with a pair of losses at CCAA regular-season champion Humboldt State, 11-0 in 5 innings and 6-2.

The Coyotes finished the season 18-36 overall and 12-24 in the CCAA.

Game 1: Humboldt State 11, Coyotes 0 (5 innings)
Jacqueline Lopez, Alyssa Flores and Victoria Lievanos each singled, but the Coyotes were dealt a mercy-rule for the third straight game in the series.

Courtney Hiatt delivered a grand slam in the fifth inning to end the game.

Game 2: Humboldt State 6, Coyotes 2
Lievanos came through with a run-scoring single in the fourth when the Coyotes had five hits in the inning.

After Charlotte Galzote was thrown out at home after Flores singled up the middle, Monica Ferguson and Jamie Leffingwell each reached base on consecutive singles.

Lievanos then gave the Coyotes their fourth consecutive hit, scoring Flores.

The Lumberjacks regained the lead with a run in the fourth, CSUSB tied the game at 2-2 on Flores' single up the middle that scored Darian Manuz, who singled.

But HSU scored three runs in its half of the fifth and added another run in the sixth.

Alyssa Ramos, Flores and Lievanos each had two hits as the Coyotes out-hit HSU 11-10.

COYOTE NOTES: Saturday's games concluded the careers for three Coyotes -- Alyssa Flores, Monica Ferguson and Jamie Leffingwell... Flores finished her career in several top-10 categories -- 7th batting average (.338 153-for-453), 6th RBI (106), 6th walks (56) and T4th home runs (21). She finished the season with a team-leading .405 batting average, tied for 9th in school history... Jamie Leffingwell completed her career ranked 8th in at-bats (578), 10th hits (168), 7th RBI (93), 10th runs (83) and 5th doubles (35).
