Box Score 2 SAN FRANCISCO –
Monica Ferguson's bat and
Kacey Cota's arm were the difference makers in the Coyotes' 2-1 victory over San Francisco State in CCAA softball Saturday afternoon.
The Gators came back to earn the victory in the second game, 6-2.
The Coyotes (18-32 overall and 12-20 CCAA) complete the season this week when they travel to league-leading Humboldt State.
Game 1: Coyotes 2, San Francisco State 1
Ferguson came through with a two-run home run in the thir inning and Cota did the rest on the mound to secure the win.
In the third, junior
Darian Manuz singled to shortstop, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and got to third on a ground out.
That set the stage for Ferguson, who ripped the two-out homer to right.
Cota did the rest. The Tracy RHP allowed just three hits and struck out two with one walk. She gave up just an unearned run in the sixth.
The Gators had runners at first and second with one out, but Cota got out of the jam when she induced a fly ball to center and struck out Sarah Catania to end the game.
Game 2: San Francisco State 6, Coyotes 2
Alyssa Flores and
Jamie Leffingwell each had triples, but the Coyotes fell behind early, 3-0 through four innings.
In the fifth, CSUSB closed the gap to 3-2 when Flores' triple scored
Charlotte Galzote (fielder's choice) and Manuz (single).
But SFSU responded with three runs in the sixth for the win.
Manuz and Leffingwell each had two hits.
