Coyotes stopped in 5-1 series opener at Sonoma State

CSUSB looks to bounce back in Saturday doubleheader

ROHNERT PARKBilly Hamilton lifted an RBI-single in the first inning, but that was the all run-scoring support the Coyotes provided in a 5-1 loss at Sonoma State in CCAA baseball Friday afternoon.

The Coyotes, who have lost eight consecutive games, are now 9-11 overall and 3-9 in the CCAA. Sonoma State improved to 14-5, 6-3.

After the Coyotes' first inning, Sonoma State answered back with one run in the second and two in the third and went on to earn the victory.

SSU pitcher Harmen Sidhu and Steven Zaharias combined on a two-hitter as Sidhu accounted for all seven Coyotes' strikeouts.

In fact, after Hamilton's first-inning single, the Coyotes did not have another hit until the seventh inning when Richard Mount had a one-out single.

James Trebus took the loss in 5 innings of work. He had one strikeout. Kyle Abel threw two innings of relief with one strikeout and Phil Gonzalez had two strikeouts in his one inning of work.

The teams return to the field Saturday with an 11 a.m. doubleheader.
