SAN BERNARDINO – It's been a tough climb for the CSUSB women's basketball team to reach the .500 level, but that's what the Coyotes accomplished Friday night in their 59-41 win over Sonoma State on Senior Night.
Freshman
Adriana Brodie earned a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds as the Coyotes took control in the final 15 minutes and pushed their record to 13-13 overall and 11-11 in the CCAA.
And for the first time since Jan. 11, the Coyotes have reached the .500 level on the strength of winning their seventh game in the last 10.
CSUSB earned the seventh seed in the CCAA Tournament and will play at second-seed UC San Diego on Tuesday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
Two interesting statistics jump out for the Coyotes in their 18-point victory. One, they shot 50 percent from the 3-point stripe despite hitting 21 of 58 from the floor. And two, CSUSB made the most of its second-chance shots, outscoring SSU 25-2.
Senior
Eliza Dy pumped in 12 points and
Jaslyn Cosey added 11 in their final game played at Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes made their run when senior
Kristen Huffman produced a layup with 15:11 and the Coyotes up 33-31. That began a 14-2 run in four minutes and the Coyotes were never threatened again.
Junior
Tayllor Gipson added nine off the bench and junior
Trinidee Trice had seven.
Kristina Fahey and Brianna Burgos shared team-high scoring honors for the Seawolves, who finished 6-17 and 7-15, with nine points each.
