Britney Butler accounted for five of the Coyotes' six runs and
Alyssa Flores drove in three to lead the Coyotes past No. 5 Cal State Dominguez Hills 6-4 in eight innings in CCAA softball Friday afternoon.
The Coyotes lost the second game, 5-1.
CSUSB (8-12 overall, 5-5 CCAA) and the Toros (12-4, 4-2) finish their series Saturday at Carson. First pitch is 12 p.m.
Game 1: Coyotes 6, Cal State Dominguez Hills 4, 8 innings
CSUSB trailed 4-0 through two innings before it got going in the fourth inning.
Butler connected on a two-run home run that scored
Darian Manuz and the Coyotes cut the deficit in half.
Two innings later, Flores ripped a two-out triple to right center that scored Butler (walk) and Jocelyn Ramirez, who reached on an error.
In the eighth, Flores gave the Coyotes the go-ahead run on an RBI-single to center and
Monica Ferguson drove in Butler for the two-run lead.
RHP
Kaitlyn Randall was solid in eight innings. After the opening two innings, she settled down for six innings of shut-out ball. She struck out five, walked two and allowed seven hits.
Ferguson also had two hits as CSUSB out-hit the Toros, 8-7.
Game 2: CSU Dominguez Hills 5, Coyotes 1
The Toros' Stephanie Jimenez had seven strikeouts as the Coyotes got their only run of the game in the fifth.
Down 4-0, Flores' single to right center scored Butler, who reached on an error.
Manuz,
