Eliza Dy was right behind with 17 as the Coyotes guaranteed themselves a CCAA Tournament berth with a 68-57 win over visiting San Francisco State on Thursday night.
The victory places the Coyotes in the conference tournament that starts Tuesday for the first time since 2011. It is unknown at press time who the Coyotes (12-13 overall, 10-11 CCAA) will play, but it will be on the road night.
CSUSB enjoyed a 6-3 record in the month of February and looks to extend its good fortune when it closes the regular season Friday at home against Sonoma State.
The Coyotes pulled away from the Gators (11-14, 8-13) in the second half. Down 31-29 with 15 minutes and 19 seconds left in the game, the Coyotes enjoyed a 14-2 run over a 6 ½-minute span and led 43-33 on
Jaslyn Cosey's jumper with 7:18 left.
The Coyotes worked the clock down the stretch and did not let the Gators get closer than seven points.
Dy had seven of the Coyotes points in that pivotal stretch and
Jaslyn Cosey, who scored 15 on the night, had five including a 3-pointer.
CSUSB controlled the rebound edge, winning 38 to 34. However, the Coyotes had 14 offensive rebounds and outscored the Gators 13-0 on second-chance points to earn the victory.
The Gators' Jennifer Le led her team with 16 points on 6-of-7 shooting. She scored 14 of her points in the final 3:30.
Mack finished 6-of-11 from the floor and was perfect in six attempts from the free throw line.
Junior
Trinidee Trice, who had four points, led the Coyotes with six assists and eight rebounds.
