Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – Hustle plays often determine the difference in a ballgame and the Coyotes were the ones who found their way to success with a 58-49 victory over visiting Cal State Monterey Bay in CCAA play Friday night.
The Coyotes, who improved to 11-12 overall and 9-10 in the CCAA, outscored the Otters 18-8 on points off turnovers. That mattered big-time as nearly 50 percent of the Coyotes' field goals came off turnovers.
Senior
Eliza Dy led four players in double figures with 17 and freshman
Adriana Brodie gathered her second straight double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Jaslyn Cosey also had 11 points and
Nicole Chapple 10 for CSUSB, which won for the fifth time in its last seven games.
Defense has factored greatly in that span as the win over the Otters was the fifth times in the month that CSUSB has held its opponent to less than 60 points – all Coyotes' victories.
Brodie keyed the Coyotes with a jumper that gave the Coyotes the lead for good with 9:10 remaining at 38-36. The Otters cut the lead to one when Stefanie Corgel made the game's only 3-pointer, but over the next 5-plus minutes, CSUSB remained in control and pulled away late.
The victory was CSUSB's first at home over the Otters since the 2007-08 season and helps fortify a potential CCAA Tournament berth. CSUSB is in seventh place, one game ahead of San Francisco State with three games remaining.
Both teams struggled from the floor, especially from 3-point land. The teams combined to hit 1-for-27 from the arc.
Brittani Jefferson led the Otters (17-5, 14-5) with 19 points.
