Box Score LOS ANGELES -- Friday night belonged to junior
Tayllor Gipson, who scored a career-high 25 points in Cal State San Bernardino's 64-47 stunner over Cal State L.A. in CCAA women's basketball.
The victory was a big one for coach Kevin Becker's crew, who snapped a five-game losing streak. CSUSB improved to 7-10 overall and 5-8 in the CCAA, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 14-6, 9-4.
Gipson's effort provided a big-time lift as she entered play with a total of 26 points over her last six games. She was 10-of-16 from the field with a 3-pointer and hit 4-of-6 free throws in 34 minutes off the bench.
She surpassed her season-best total of 16 points set against Hope International on Dec. 18.
Gipson was not the only Coyote who stood out against the Golden Eagles. Junior
Trinidee Trice produced her third double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
Those two players combined for 18 of 29 shots.
Senior
Eliza Dy also reached double figures with 13 points with six assists and three steals.
The Coyotes grabbed the lead for good with 7:58 remaining in the first half. Gipson hit a jumper just after the media timout to put CSUSB up 18-17.
The Golden Eagles got as close as one on just one occasion.
Perhaps the most impressive run of the night came late in the second half.
After CSULA's Tessondra Williams' cut its deficit to 47-42 on a layup with 10:24 remaining, the Coyotes went to work. They created tremendous point separation with a 25-5 run to end the game.
Gipson tallied eight of her 12 second-half points in that pivotal stretch.
Williams scored a game-high 28 points for CSULA, but the Golden Eagles did not have anyone else in double figures.
