Trinidee Trice led three Coyotes in double figures with 13 points in her first appearance in the 2013-14 season, but the Coyotes were dealt a 67-55 loss Sunday at UC San Diego in CCAA basketball.
The Coyotes enter the Christmas break at 1-6 overall and 0-4 CCAA.
CSUSB led in the early going, hitting its first three shots and led 10-7 inside the opening four minutes of play.
But UCSD's Haley Anderson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and the Coyotes never recovered. They pulled within six points on eight separate occasions, the last at 45-39 with 11:29 left on a pair of
Adriana Brodie free throws.
But the Tritons answered right back with a 13-2 run and led 58-41 on McKennan Bertsch's layup with 5:45 left.
Seniors
Tayllor Gipson and
Jazzmyn Davis each had 10 for the Coyotes, who shot 32.3 percent from the field on 21-of-65 shooting.
UCSD (6-2, 3-1) was led by Erin Dautremont's 15 points. The Tritons hit 22 of 41 from the field,
good for 53.7 percent.
Trice and freshman
Tatiana Dunlap led the Coyotes in rebounds with six each. Gipson had three assists.
The Coyotes next play Chico State on Jan. 3 at Coussoulis Arena.
