Maurisha McKissic led the Coyotes with eight points, but CSUSB got caught in a scoring drought in the second half and was dealt a 69-41 loss at Cal Poly Pomona on Wednesday night in CCAA women's play.
Adriana Brodie put in a layup that drew the Coyotes to within nine (34-25) with 16:06 left in the game.
But CPP found another gear and outscored the Coyotes 23-2 over the next eight-plus minutes to improve to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the CCAA.
CSUSB was held to 27.6 percent from the floor on 16-of-58 shooting from the floor. The Coyotes were just 2 of 20 from 3-point land with
Megan Blackwell and
Shayna Stuart each scoring treys.
Briana Baker and Brodie were next in scoring for CSUSB with six points and
Jazzmyn Davis and
Tayllor Gipson each had five. The Coyotes trailed 6-0 to start the game and never led.
CPP had three players in double figures, led by Jada Blackwell with 16. Ariel Marsh had 13 and Ashley Lovett 11.
CSUSB returns to the hard wood Friday afternoon when its takes part in the UC San Diego Tournament. The Coyotes face Azusa Pacific on Friday and Metro State on Saturday.
