Coyotes, Toros draw at 0-0

CSUSB remains the CCAA South leader heading into final week

Chelsey Jones is the all-time career leader in shutouts with 18.
Box Score SAN BERNARDINO – Points are becoming a precious commodity as the CCAA regular season draws to a close in the final weeks of play.

The CCAA South-leading Coyotes were shutout in Sunday's game against Cal State Dominguez Hills, but to their credit and the power of senior GK Chelsey Jones, offered a shutout of their own in a 0-0 draw at Premier Field.

CSUSB, 9-5-3 overall and 9-5-2 CCAA, picked up a point in the conference standings and now owns a three-point advantage over Cal State L.A. (24-21) and a four-point lead over UC San Diego (20) heading into this week's final week of play.

The season comes to this point – another CSUSB win clinches a CCAA Tournament berth in Turlock on Nov. 8-10. The Coyotes play host to Chico State on Friday and are at San Francisco State on Sunday as the best third-place UCSD could reach is 26 points.

The Coyotes have now gone scoreless in their last 290-plus minutes and will have to find some answers on the offensive end.

CSUSB had its best chance at scoring a goal in the second overtime. At the 96th minute, junior Jasmine Williams had the ball on a breakaway and only needed to get past Toros GK Jennifer Ackley.

But her shot was straight at the Toros GK and she deftly made the save.

The shutout was Jones' 18th in her career and that sets a school record. She surpassed Laura Lyons, who had 17 (2006-09). She had five saves.

Freshman Kiana Quarles had two SOG and junior Sierra Van Meter had the other.
