Senior Kristen Huffman grabbed nine rebounds in addition to her game-winning basket.

ARCATA –
Senior Kristen Huffman made the most of her only field goal Thursday night when her put-back with two seconds remaining in the game lifted Cal State San Bernardino past Humboldt State 42-41 in CCAA women's basketball Thursday night.

Four days after suffering a difficult loss at UC San Diego, the Coyotes put that ill feeling aside and captured a tough road win over the Lumberjacks (7-4 overall, 3-2 CCAA).

Huffman, who began her collegiate career at Humboldt State (2009-10), finished with three points on the night, but pulled down nine rebounds as the Coyotes overcame a 13-point second-half scoring total.

Junior Nicole Chapple and freshman Alexcia Mack each scored eight points for the Coyotes (5-4, 3-2), who held a 10-point lead with 14 minutes remaining and earned the win after HSU grabbed its only lead of the second half with 45 seconds remaining.

Lisa Petty gave the Lumberjacks a 41-40 lead when she hit the first of two free throw attempts. She had a chance to push the lead to two, but missed the second.

Both teams turned the ball over on their next possessions and the Coyotes got the ball back after a turnover by Kelly Kime.

Senior Eliza Dy fired a jumper that was off the mark with five seconds left. Huffman grabbed the rebound and scored on the put-back.

HSU's Caitie Richards' 3-pointer at the buzzer was off the mark and the Coyotes earned the win.

Chapple had 12 rebounds and hit all six of her free throw attempts.

Dy also had seven points in a game that had eight lead changes and four ties. Trice had five points off the bench in 14 minutes.

The Coyotes complete the week Saturday night at Cal Poly Pomona with a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.

EDITOR'S NOTE: The HSU initial box score and play-by-play featured Trinidee Trice as the individual with the game-winning basket. Corrections have been made in both the game story and season statistics.
