SAN BERNARDINO -- Cal State San Bernardino matched the hot weather that struck the Inland Empire on Friday with a sound 1-0 victory over visiting Cal State Dominguez Hills in CCAA women's soccer.
The victory improved the Coyotes' winning streak to four games as they now take on UC San Diego on Sunday. CSUSB is 4-0-1 overall and unbeaten in the CCAA at 3-0.
In the 50th minute, senior
Ashley Wolf and
Jani Carmona-Urbano were credited with assists on the game's only goal, scored by freshman
Katie Gagner.
Wolf delivered the ball to Carmona-Urbano on the left sideline. Carmona-Urbano, this week's CCAA Player of the Week, fired a parallel cross shot that found Gagner right near the left goal post. She tapped in a shot that struck the post and trickled in for the game-winner.
It was Gagner's first goal in her career.
Carmona-Urbano had four shots with two SOG, while Gagner,
Jillian Seminara and
Melanie Aguayo each had SOG.
Senior
Priscilla Collings was sound again in goal. She totaled seven saves and earned her first shutout on the season.
CSUDH out-shot the Coyotes, 14-12 and held the advantage in corners, 7-2.
CSUDH dropped to 2-2-1, 1-2.
The Coyotes and UCSD meet Sunday at 2 p.m.
