HAYWARD
-- Brittney Ybarra and Alyssa Flores each had run-scoring hits and senior Courtney Wilhelms threw a three-hitter as the Coyotes' softball team earned a split Friday against Cal State East Bay -- winning the second game 2-0 and losing the opener 5-3.

The Coyotes (17-24, 10-16) and Pioneers (24-19, 11-15) complete the weekend with a doubleheader Saturday.

Wilhelms struck out three, walked four for the victory. All three hits were singles.

The Coyotes got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Alyssa Ramos, who pinch-ran for Alyssa Flores, scored on Ybarra's one-out single through the left side.

Then in the fifth, Flores connected for a two-out single to right that scored Charlotte
Galzote, who reached base on an error by the second baseman to begin the inning.

Britney Butler had a double and a single, but the Coyotes allowed two home runs in the first inning as the Pioneers went on to earn a 5-3 win in the opener.

CSUEB later added three runs in the third and that was enough to secure the win.
Jamie Leffingwell and Ybarra each had two hits.
