Long ball gives Coyotes a split over SFSU

CSUSB wins 6-4 in nightcap, loses 4-3 in final at-bat in opener

Edwin Mendoza leads the CCAA in home runs by hitting his 10th Saturday in the Coyotes' 6-4 win over SFSU.
SAN FRANCISCO -- CCAA home run leader Edwin Mendoza ripped his 10th home run and fellow senior Paul Eshleman clubbed his eighth as the Coyotes earned a split Saturday afternoon against the host San Francisco State Gators with a 6-4 win in the nightcap.

The Coyotes, who lost the opener 4-3 in the bottom of the ninth, look to take the series Sunday in the finale. CSUSB owns a 24-16 overall record and 21-14 CCAA record. SFSU is 15-29, 12-23.

The split puts the Coyotes two and a half games behind league-leading UC San Diego and one game behind second-place Chico in the CCAA race. UCSD was swept by Cal State L.A. on Saturday and Chico State took two games from CSU Dominguez Hills.
