Game 2: Coyotes 3, CSU Dominguez Hills 2

SAN BERNARDINO
-- Britney Butler came through for the Coyotes' softball team with a 3-run home run in the sixth inning and junior RHP Carly Land threw a complete game as the Coyotes earned a 3-2 victory over No. 9 Cal State Dominguez Hills in the second game of a CCAA doubleheader Friday at Coyote Park.

The Coyotes (18-29 overall, 11-21 CCAA), who lost the opener 3-0, play their final game of the season Saturday on Senior Day against the Toros (39-11, 25-7 CCAA).

Land improved her record to 8-13 on the season with her most impressive effort of 2012. She gave up five hits, two runs, but only one earned. She struck out two, walked three and hit two batters, but kept the Toros off-balance for the win.

CSUDH grabbed scored an unearned run in the second on Daisy Beltran's double. The Toros added the other on a wild pitch that scored Stephanie Jimenez in the fourth.

In the sixth, Alyssa Ramos led off with a single to short. One out later, Alex Mitchell singled  and after Charlotte Galzote was out when she hit out of the batter's box, Butler delivered her 14th home run of the season over the left-center field wall and accounted for the Coyotes' only runs of the day.

The home run was her 37th in her career and ties for season-best 14 that she accounted as a freshman in 2010.

Land faced just four batters in the seventh for the win.

The Coyotes had just four hits off Stephanie Jimenez, who fell to 20-3 on the season.

In the opener, Jimenez struck out 12 and scattered seven hits. Mitchell had the Coyotes' only extra-base hit – a double in the seventh – and was 3-for-3 for the game.
