CHICO --
Britney Butler and
Alyssa Flores each connected for solo home runs, but it wasn't enough as No. 19 Chico State took the first game of a doubleheader 5-2, then went on to earn a 2-1 win in a CCAA doubleheader Saturday.
The Coyotes, now 17-28 overall and 10-20 CCAA, return to Coyote Park this week in their final games of the 2012 season when they take on CCAA-leading Cal State Dominguez Hills. The Coyotes and Toros begin Friday and Saturday marks Senior Day.
In the opener, the Wildcats scored three runs in the first inning and added two more in the third.
Flores gave the Coyotes their first run with a lead-off shot to left. Butler's was a two-out shot in the seventh.
In the second game,
Felicia Cervantes' sacrifice bunt advanced
Jamie Leffingwell, who doubled, to score and CSUSB held a 1-0 lead in the second.
But the Wildcats (29-13, 20-8) scored single runs in the fourth and fifth for the win.
Coyotes starter
Carly Land scattered six hits with five strikeouts. Both runs were earned.
The Coyotes had just three hits --
Courtney Wilhelms and
Charlotte Galzote had the others.
