Coyotes go 1-2 during Friday's play at Tournament of Champions

CSUSB gains 6-2 win over Western Washington

Junior Alyssa Flores had two hits in the Coyotes' 6-2 win over Western Washington.
TURLOCK -- CSUSB opened play at the Tournament of Champions with a 6-4 win over Western Washington to highlight Friday's action.

The Coyotes were dealt a 3-1 loss by Montana State-Billings and a 5-4 loss to Cal Baptist and take a 14-22 record into Saturday's games against Dixie State and Western Oregon.

The Coyotes scored five runs on four hits in the second inning to give starter RHP Abreanna Landeros all the sort the freshman needed.

Senior Alex Mitchell had an RBI-double to key the inning and Victoria Lievanos, Brittany Ybarra and Jamie Leffingwell each had RBI to key the outburst.

Butler and junior Alyssa Flores each had two hits against the Vikings (6-21).

Landeros (6-4) threw six innings and gave up seven hits, two runs -- both earned. She had one strikeout and walked nine batters.

Leffingwell and Ybarra each had two hits for CSUSB, but the Yellowjackets led throughout, scoring two runs in the first.

All eight Coyotes hits were singles.

Senior Carly Land had four strikeouts and did not issue a walk in seven innings.

Cal Baptist 5, Coyotes 4 (box score)
The Coyotes, who trailed 3-1 after four innings, scored three runs in the fifth for a 4-3 lead. But the Lancers answered with two in the fifth and held on for the win.

Flores keyed the inning with a two-run, two RBI to put the Coyotes ahead. CSUSB scored three runs on three hits as Ybarra scored on a first-and-third play.

Freshman Charlotte Galzote had two hits of the Coyotes' six hits.
