ROHNERT PARK -- Wednesday night's game between the Coyotes and the host Sonoma State Seawolves featured two teams fighting for a CCAA Tourney women's basketball berth.
And home court proved to be the advantage as the Coyotes were defeated 66-54 by the host Seawolves.
SSU (11-14 overall, 9-12 CCAA) clinched a tourney berth with the win and the Coyotes (9-16, 8-13) are one-half game behind eighth-place Cal State East Bay as the regular season ends Friday night.
Jaslyn Cosey and
Eliza Dy each scored 14 points to lead the Coyotes, who fell behind 12 points at halftime and could not get closer than six in the final 20 minutes.
For the game, SSU outscored the Coyotes 15-3 on 3-pointers.
CSUEB (11-15, 8-12) is at Cal State Stanislaus on Thursday. A Pioneers win would force the Coyotes into a must-win situation in their game at Humboldt State on Friday. And even that might not be enough to get through the multitude of CCAA tiebreakers for the final tourney berth.
The CCAA Tournament field will be announced at 10 a.m. Saturday at www.goccaa.org. First-round play is Tuesday night at on-campus sites.
