Jaslyn Cosey scored a game-high 14 points as visiting Cal State San Bernardino stunned one of the top teams in the CCAA, Cal State Monterey Bay, with a 44-42 victory Saturday night in women's basketball.
Cosey was 7-of-11 from the field and had a team-high seven rebounds for the Coyotes, who are now 9-15 overall and 8-12 in the CCAA. The victory was CSUSB's first over the Otters (17-7, 14-6) since the 2009-10 season.
Both teams struggled from the field in the opening half as CSUSB shot 7-of-26, 26.9 percent, but the Otters were worse, hitting 5-of-27 (18.5 percent). The Coyotes held the Otters to without a field goal over a 10-plus minute stretch and held an 18-16 lead at the break.
The Coyotes are now tied for 7th with Cal State East Bay and Sonoma State for the final two spots in the CCAA Tournament that begins Feb. 28. The Coyotes face SSU on Wednesday night in Rohnert Park.
