SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior
Jamie Leffingwell laced a one-out, two-run walk-off home run to lift the Coyotes past visiting San Francisco State 8-7 and secured the sweep in California Collegiate Athletic Association softball Saturday.
The Coyotes took the series, 3 games to 1, as they improved to 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the CCAA. The Gators dropped to 4-9, 2-6.
CSUSB is at Cal State Monterey Bay next weekend.
Box Score: Coyotes 8, SF State 7
CSUSB found itself trailing 7-6 when the Gators' Jenna Wermes hit a two-run single in the 7th.
But the Coyotes would not be denied. After
Courtney Wilhelms flew out to lead-off the 7th, senior
Felicia Cervantes singled to right. Patty Masner came in to pinch-run and that set-up Leffingwell's heroics. She drove a Becky Nakano offering deep over the left-field wall and the Coyotes emptied the bench in rejoice.
Leffingwell was the only Coyote to have more than one RBI, but the Coyotes dominated with 16 hits. Cervantes was 4-for-4 with a double and
Alyssa Flores also added a home run -- her second in the series.
Mitchell,
Britney Butler, Flores and freshman
Charlotte Galzote all had two hits.
RHP
