LAS VEGAS -- Britney Butler had the only extra-base hit for the Coyotes with a solo home run as they were defeated by Dixie State 12-4 in a game that was shortened due to the eight-run rule in Sunday's concluding play at the Desert Stinger Tournament.
 
The Coyotes went 2-3 in the three-day event and bring a 4-5 overall record into Friday's CCAA season opener at home against San Francisco State.
 
Alex Mitchell, Courtney Wilhelms and Brittney Ybarra all had two hits for the Coyotes.
 
Dixie State struck with a five-run fourth to lead 8-1and had a three-run sixth for the win.
 
Wilhelms took the loss as she gave up seven hits, five runs -- all earned – in 3 1/3 innings.
