Box Score: Coyotes 3, Cal State East Bay 0
HAYWARD -- Cal State San Bernardino shrugged off a disappointment with its largest offensive output in 2012 with a 3-0 win over Cal State East Bay in the men's soccer regular-season finale Sunday.
CSUSB finished the first season under head coach Lance Thompson at 5-5-7 overall and 5-5-5 in the CCAA.
"I'm real proud of our effort today,'' Thompson said. "Friday was a tough pill to swallow with a loss right at the end. For our guys to hang in there and score three goals in a 15-minute span says a lot about their character and determination.''
Sophomore
Dylan Faggioni broke through in the 71st minute on a five-footer delivered from
Nicholas Harb. Ten minutes later, freshman
Ricardo Velasco scored his sixth goal on the season with an unassisted goal from six yards out.
Then for good measure, fellow freshman
Leo Mendoza added the final goal at the 86th-minute.
The three goals scored were a season-best and the most by the Coyotes since a 3-2 win over Cal Poly Pomona on Oct. 28, 2011.
CSUEB finished its year 4-8-5, 2-7-5.
Senior
Tanner Olinger earned the win with seven saves.
