Coyotes' trio takes charge in 63-47 win

Huffman, Dy score 20; Streets adds 19 in victory over Pioneers

Junior Kristen Huffman earned her third consecutive double-double in Saturday's 63-47 win over Cal State East Bay.
SAN BERNARDINO -- Junior Kristen Huffman powered the Coyotes with her third consecutive double-double and led a trio of Coyotes for a combined 59 points as they went on to defeat visiting Cal State East Bay 63-47 in CCAA women's basketball Saturday night.

Huffman scored a season-high 20 points with 11 rebounds on 7 of 10 shooting, while senior Eliza Dy added 20 and Angela Streets had 19 for the Coyotes, who improved to 5-9 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA.

CSUSB, led by Lauren Lucchesi's 19 points is now 5-10, 2-7.

With 8:29 remaining in the game, Coyotes' senior Jessica Dela Cruz sustained a head injury that delayed the game for 25 minutes. She was taken to Loma Linda Medical Center and her condition was unknown at press time.

The game featured five ties and seven lead changes -- all in the first half.

Leading 29-27 at the break, the Coyotes were aided by a pair of Dy 3-pointers and built a 39-29 lead with 17:01. Over the next six minutes, CSUSB hit 4 of 6 shots from the field and led 51-40 on a pair of Streets' free throws with 11:12 left.

After the delay, the Coyotes led by as many as 17 on a jumper from Dy and earned the win.

CSUSB hit 21 of 52 shots from the field and defensively, held the Pioneers to just eight field goals in the final half.

Huffman has given the Coyotes a real shot in the arm over the last three games. She has averaged 16-plus points and 11 rebounds as CSUSB has won two of its last three games.

The double-double was her fourth on the year.

CSUSB returns to Coussoulis on Friday night when they play host to Humboldt State. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
