SAN BERNARDINO -- You could say that Samantha Middleborn had an ace up her uniform sleeve during the Coyotes' match against visiting Cal Poly Pomona on Saturday night.

Middleborn scored five consecutive service aces in the second set and fellow All-American Camille Smith later added two more aces in the pivotal set as the second-ranked Coyotes went on to earn a 3-0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-22) victory over the Broncos in California Collegiate Athletic Association play in Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes won their 52nd consecutive home match and 35th consecutive home CCAA match in the 89-minute match against the Broncos (3-3, 0-2).

Middleborn and fellow senior Priscilla Collings each had 10 kills to pace the Coyotes, who hit .381 on the attack.

The momentum swing arrived midway in the second set. Trailing 7-5, the Coyotes had a pair of kills from Middleborn and and Collings to tie the set and that's when Middleborn went to work. She served four consecutive service aces and added another after CPP called a time-out.

That effort put the Coyotes ahead 12-7 and once they got the earned serve, Smith added her two aces for the match and CSUSB comfortably led 17-8.

Middleborn's six aces tied a career high set last season at Sonoma State. She also had four block assists, while Johnson and senior Kate Barton each had three block assists.

CSUSB had a 45 kills on the night and just eight attack errors for their .381 effort on the attack. Sophomore Danielle Newcombe had eight skills and senior Megan Johnson had six.
