ARCATA – The Coyotes earned a split in their doubleheader against host Humboldt State, but did not finish in the top four in the CCAA Tournament.
The Coyotes, 31-22 overall and 18-18, were nudged out by Cal State Dominguez Hills, which took two of four games from Sonoma State. The Toros were 17-15 in league play and earned the fourth and final spot.
CSUSB will face Humboldt State in a nonconference game at 8 a.m. Saturday. It is still in contention for an NCAA Regional bid, despite not making the conference tourney.

Senior LHP
Cassidy Lee earned the complete-game victory over the Lumberjacks. She struck out eight, walked four and gave up six hits.
The Coyotes struck with a three-run third and earned insurance runs with two in the sixth.
In the third,
Jamie Leffingwell and
Jamie Roland had consecutive singles to open the inning, and Leffingwell scored when
Alex Mitchell reached base on a fielder's choice on an error by the second baseman.
Three batters later, junior
Stefanie Pace ripped a two-run double to left that scored Roland and Mitchell.
In the sixth,
Britney Butler and Leffingwell each had run-scoring singles.
Mitchell and Leffingwell each had two hits – both with a pair of singles.

The Lumberjacks led 8-0 through four innings before the Coyotes scored two runs apiece in the fifth and sixth.
Senior
Priscilla Curiel's two-run home run helped the Coyotes avoid a shutout and Curiel added a run-scoring single in the sixth that scored Leffingwell. Butler later scored on a passed ball.
Curiel was the only Coyote with more than one hit.
