Cassidy Lee threw a five-hit shutout and teammates
Jamie Leffingwell and
Courtney Wilhelms each hit home runs as the host Coyotes defeated visiting Cal State East Bay 7-0 in the second game of a doubleheader Friday afternoon at Coyote Park.
The Coyotes, who lost the opener 3-1, will finish the weekend series Saturday on Senior Day. CSUSB will honor its three seniors -- Lee,
Jacquelyn Holtzclaw and
Priscilla Curiel -- in a postgame ceremony.
Game 2: Coyotes 7, CSU East Bay 0 (Box Score)
Lee was solid in her seven innings, giving up just one extra-base hit. She improved to 11-7 overall and improved her ERA to 3.59. On the season, she had 87 strikeouts in a team-high 115 innings. The game was her seventh complete game.
The Coyotes took a 1-0 lead in the first when Holtzclaw, who reached on a single, stole second, advanced to third on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
They added two more runs on two hits and one error in the second.
Jamie Roland drove in Leffingwell on a single to third and two batters later, Holtzclaw singled to short that scored
Stefanie Pace, who reached on a sacrifice bunt.
Leffingwell hit her solo home run in the third on a shot to left field and the Coyotes added three more in the sixth -- Wilhelms connected on a two-run homer -- after Butler scored on an error after her single to center.
Butler and Holtzclaw each had two hits.
Game 1: CSUEB 3, Coyotes 1
The Coyotes were limited by Talia Ferrari, who allowed four hits and struck out three.
Alyssa Flores had the only extra-base hit for the Coyotes when she doubled in the third.
Carly Land (7-6) took the loss, but she kept the Coyotes in the game. She threw four innings and gave up two runs -- one earned. She had one strikeout and gave up only three hits.
