Box Score: No. 7 Chico State 6, Coyotes 4
CHICO – Chico State scored six unanswered runs midway through Sunday's CCAA baseball game against the Coyotes and earned a 6-4 victory in series finale at Nettleton Stadium.
CSUSB (15-15 overall, 12-10 CCAA) earned a split on the weekend and returns to Fiscalini Field on Thursday when it begins a four-game series against Cal Poly Pomona. The series begins with two 9-inning contests on Thursday and Friday and wraps up with Saturday's doubleheader at CPP's Scolinos Field.
On Sunday, the Coyotes grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first, thanks to
Chris LeFay's run-scoring single through the right side of the infield that scored
Ethan Chapman, who opened the game with a single.
But the Coyotes were held scoreless until the eighth inning. Trailing 6-1, CSUSB connected on three runs on five hits.
Darren Dworak,
David Silvas and
Brandon Day all had had doubles and
Matt Winn had an RBI-single that pulled the Coyotes to within two runs.
But Chico State (22-7, 16-6) shut down the Coyotes in the ninth with only Chapman earning a base hit.
Chapman, Silvas, LeFay,
Bryce Holland and
Mike Newell each had two hits for the Coyotes.

Casey McCarthy took the loss, throwing 4 1/3 innings and allowing seven hits, five runs, two strikeouts and two walks.
