Coyotes earn two victories at Tournament of Champions

CSUSB battles back with 5-run 7th inning in 5-4 win over Grand Canyon

– The Coyotes scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to earn a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Grand Canyon at the Mizuno Tournament of Champions, held at Cal State Stanislaus.

Trailing 4-0, Britney Butler gave the Coyotes their first hit of the game and Jamie Leffingwell followed with another single. Each moved over on a stolen base and one out later, Jamie Roland's run-scoring single scored Butler.

With Alex Mitchell at the plate, Leffingwell scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 4-2.
Mitchell then walked and senior Jacquelyn Holtzclaw ripped a two-run triple to left center and the Coyotes tied the game at 4-4.

Junior Courtney Wilhelms earned the game-winning RBI when her groundout to third scored Holtzclaw.

Cassidy Lee earned the win in relief of Brianne Godfredson. Lee threw 1 2/3 innings and gave up just one hit with two strikeouts.

In the Coyotes' first game of the tourney, they defeated Dominican 13-0 in a game that ended after five innings.

Stefanie Pace went 3-for-3, while Holtzclaw and Wilhelms each had two hits.

Godfredson threw a two-hit shutout.
