SAN BERNARDINO -- Coyote Park has been a great environment for the Coyotes this season as they pushed their winning streak to six games with a series sweep over Cal State Dominguez Hills, 8-2 and 11-3 in six innings.
CSUSB is now 18-12 overall and a solid 12-2 at home this spring, while the Toros are now 17-13.
The Coyotes return to CCAA play this weekend at Coyote Park in a four-game series that begins at 1 p.m. Friday.
Game 1: Coyotes 8, CSU Dominguez Hills 2
A four-run third inning gave the Coyotes all the momentum they would need as RHP
Brianne Godfredson was solid in seven innings on the mound.
Leading 2-1, the Coyotes took command with a four-run, four-hit fourth inning. Delivering the big hit was senior
Priscilla Curiel, who laced a three-run home run to left.
Jamie Leffingwell opened the inning with a double and
Alyssa Flores followed with a single that set-up Curiel's shot.
Britney Butler finished the scoring with a bases-loaded walk that scored
Courtney Wilhelms, who reached on a walk.
The Coyotes scored two more runs in the fourth after CSUDH pushed its second run across in the top of the inning.
Wilhelms drove a one-out, two-run shot to left center that scored Curiel, who reached on a walk.
Godfredson scattered eight hits and gave up two runs, one earned. She struck out three and did not walk a batter as she improved to 3-3.
Jacquelyn Holtzclaw had two hits including a double and
Felicia Cervantes had a pair of hits.
Alex Mitchell had the other RBI -- a sacrifice fly in the second.
Game 2: Coyotes 11, CSU Dominguez Hills 3 (six innings)
The Coyotes struck with a 10-run sixth inning to win the game due to the eight-run rule.
Wilhelms connected on her second home run of the day -- this one a three-run shot left center. Four batters later, Holtzclaw ripped a two-run single to right and Flores later added a two-run single through the left side that made the score 8-3, Coyotes.
Wilhelms added her fourth RBI of the inning on a ground out and Cervantes capped the inning and the game with a two-run single.
The game was a scoreless tie through four innings until the Coyotes grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Jamie Roland doubled to left and became the first Coyote to reach third base when she stole and later scored on a single by Mitchell.
The Toros came back in the sixth and scored three runs off Coyotes starter
Cassidy Lee.
Mitchell finished 3 for 3 and Flores was 3 for 4 with two RBI. Holtzclaw, Leffingwell, Curiel each had two hits.
Lee pitched a solid 5 2/3 innings with three strikeouts and allowed six hits.. Reliever
Carly Land earned the victory by throwing just a 1/3 of an inning and improved to 6-3.
The Coyotes took seven of eight games from the Toros this season.
