Coyotes pull away from Cal State L.A., 62-53

Women improve to 16-3 overall, 12-3 CCAA

SAN BERNARDINO
-- Cal State San Bernardino held off tough-minded Cal State L.A. over the final 10 minutes Saturday night and earned a hard-fought 62-53 win over the Golden Eagles in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes improved to 16-3 overall and 12-3 in the CCAA for their fourth straight win over CSULA in the series that began in 1987.

Senior Eisha Sheppard scored a game-high 20 points and junior Amber Glasser added 11 as the Coyotes held CSULA to just two points over a critical five-minute span in the second half.

The game was tied at 46-46 with 9:07 remaining in the game. Angela Streets and Jessica Dela Cruz each scored a 3-pointer and the Coyotes led 52-46 with 5:42 left.

After CSULA's Lacy Ramon scored a layup at 5:42, the Coyotes kept CSULA from scoring another field goal until Brionna Baker hit a jumper with 1:14 left and CSUSB led 55-51.

The Coyotes out-shot CSULA 38.9 percent to 31.6 percent and were 14 of 16 from the free throw line.

Senior Kym Ooten had eight points and led CSUSB in rebounds with seven and  had a career-high four blocks. Senior Sabrina Gonzalez had six points, six rebounds and also four blocks.

Ramon led the Golden Eagles (6-14, 3-13) with 14 points on just 4 of 17 shooting. Angeline Jefferson had 12 points.
