Coyotes cruise past CSU Dominguez Hills, 70-38

-- It was all about Cal State San Bernardino in Friday night's contest against Cal State Dominguez Hills in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball.

The Coyotes, behind senior guard Eisha Sheppard's 22 points, led from beginning to end and posted their largest victory of the season with a 70-38 conquest over the Toros before a crowd of 212 at Coussoulis Arena.

Sheppard was 9-of-15 from the floor in 34 minutes and helped the Coyotes improve to 15-1 when she scores 10 points or more.

CSUSB improved its record to 15-3 overall and 11-3 in the CCAA in earning the season sweep over the Toros (3-16, 3-12). The Coyotes were potent on both ends of the court -- winning on the offensive end and shutting the Toros to an impressive 13-of-61 effort from the floor -- a season defensive-best effort of 21.3 percent.

Senior Sabrina Gonzalez and junior Angela Streets each scored 11 points and five different players had at least two assists. For the game, the Coyotes dished a season-best 19 assists.

Gonzalez' 3-pointer at the 9:17 mark of the first half gave the Coyotes their first double-digit lead of the  night at 17-6. And when senior Danielle Shows scored inside, CSUSB pushed the lead to 22-12 with 4:42 remaining in the half and it led by double digits for the remainder of the game.

All told, 10 Coyotes scored on the night. Senior Kym Ooten had seven rebounds to lead CSUSB and Sheppard had five assists. Gonzalez had a game-high three steals.

Hillarie Grant and Nikki Boutte each had 12 for the Toros.

The two victories over the Toros this season are the largest margin of victory in the series history. Earlier, the Coyotes defeated the Toros 64-42.

The Coyotes return to Coussoulis Arena tomorrow night against Cal State L.A. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
