SAN BERNARDINO
-- A tough second half that brought just 15 points was the difference maker in Cal State San Bernardino's 50-47 loss to visiting Sonoma State in California Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball Friday night.

The Coyotes are now 16-4 overall and 12-4 in the CCAA and look to forget about the disappointing loss with Saturday night's game against Humboldt State. The Lumberjacks were defeated by the West Region's top team Cal Poly Pomona, 74-59 at Kellogg Gym.

Senior Eisha Sheppard led the Coyotes with her first double-double of the season. The Oregon State transfer had 14 points -- 10 in the first half -- and 10 rebounds, but she was the only Coyote to hit double figures in scoring as they shot just 7 of 31 in the second half and were 1 of 10 from the 3-point stripe.

Still, CSUSB had opportunities to win the game inside the final three minutes. Trailing 48-41 with 2:55 left, Sheppard scored on a layup and added another and CSUSB was down by three, 48-45, with 1:17 on the clock.

Two missed shots and a turnover from Sonoma State gave the ball back to CSUSB. Senior Sierra Chess answered with a layup with 16 seconds and the Coyotes were within a possession of the lead at 48-47, Sonoma.

After a Coyote timeout, SSU's Aly Conway hit two free throws to put the Seawolves ahead 50-47 with 11 seconds left.

Two seconds later, CSUSB reserve Emily Nichols fired a 3-pointer that was off the mark and fell out of bounds. SSU inbounded the ball that was stolen by Sheppard, who fired a desperation 3 that was off and Sonoma State won and improved to 7-14, 5-12.

SSU was led by three players with 10 points -- Jaclyn Bisordi, Conway and Oly Larkin.
