Second-half costs Coyotes in 62-53 loss to No. 11 Cal Poly Pomona

-- Senior Angela Streets scored 21 points on 7 of 15 shooting, but the Coyotes could not contain visiting Cal Poly Pomona in the second half as the 11th-ranked Broncos earned a 62-53 CCAA women's basketball win Thursday night at Coussoulis Arena.

The Coyotes lost their fourth consecutive game and will take a 2-7 overall mark and 1-4 record in the CCAA into Friday's game against visiting San Francisco State. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.

The Coyotes grabbed control early as they led the entire first half and led by as many as 14 when Eliza Dy scored inside to lift CSUSB 28-14 with 6:34 left. The Broncos got going afterward, finishing the half on a 15-4 run, with four points apiece from Megan Ford and Jennifer Bryant.

A Shayna Stuart layup gave CSUSB a 39-37 lead with 12:32 left in the game, but that was the Coyotes' final lead of the night. CPP used a 9-2 spurt and eventually led by as many as 12.

Ford led the Broncos (8-0 overall, 4-0 CCAA) with 28 points and 14 rebounds, the most points scored against the Coyotes this season. She was 8 of 12 from the field and a perfect 12 of 12 from the line in 39 minutes.

The 21-point performance from Streets was her second consecutive 20-plus scoring game. She had 23 in the 78-68 loss to No. 5 UC San Diego on Dec. 19.

For the night, CSUSB shot 34.5 percent (20-58) and committed just nine turnovers. Each team had 20 field goals, but the Broncos outscored the Coyotes 20-9 from the line.

Dy scored nine points with four assists and Jaslyn Cosey had nine points with five rebounds. Junior Kristen Huffman had eight points and eight rebounds.
