LA JOLLA – Senior
Eliza Dy led Cal State San Bernardino with 14 points and fellow senior
Angela Streets added 12, but it wasn't enough as Cal State San Marcos earned a 46-43 women's basketball victory at the UC San Diego Tritons Thanksgiving Classic.
The Coyotes, who dropped to 1-2 overall, begin CCAA play Friday night at Cal State L.A.
This was a disappointing loss as the Coyotes held the Cougars to without a field goal over the final 10-plus minutes. Gabriel Munsch gave the Cougars a 39-35 lead on a layup with 10:52 remaining. CSUSM scored its final seven points from the free throw line and missed its final 12 shots from the floor.
Dy pulled the Coyotes to within a point, 39-38, on a three-pointer with 9:58 left. But CSUSM, despite its poor field goal shooting, hit seven straight free throws in the final 10 minutes and held on for the win.
The Coyotes were 16 of 64 from the field and hit just 20 percent (7 of 34) in the second half.
Senior
Jessica Dela Cruz had six points for the Coyotes.
