SAN BERNARDINO
-- The history of Coyotes' volleyball has included any number of monumental achievements. But Saturday night, coach Kim Cherniss and her squad accomplished a feat that had never been accomplished.

Until now.

Top-ranked Cal State San Bernardino closed the door on the 2011 regular season unbeaten at 27-0 overall and unscathed at 22-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association for the first time in school history with an impressive 3-0 win over visiting Cal State East Bay on Senior Night at Coussoulis Arena.

All-American Samantha Middleborn capped an incredible three-match week with an attack percentage of .857 with 12 kills, two solo blocks and six block assists as CSUSB won 25-19, 25-13, 25-9 before a crowd of 476.

Middleborn completed the week with a combined .600 attack percentage (51/6/75) and eight solo blocks and 20 block assists as the Coyotes now look forward to the NCAA Tournament that begins Thursday. The Coyotes, who are ranked No. 1 in the region, will find out their status at 7 p.m. Sunday when the NCAA makes its announcement at www.ncaasports.com

It is expected that the Coyotes will host next week's regional.

The Coyotes recognized their seven seniors Saturday -- Kate Barton, Morgan Carty, Priscilla Collings, Krista Hasemeyer, Megan Johnson, Middleborn and Kelcie Tolan -- and each played a pivotal role in the victory.

Barton had five kills, Carty had eight kills with a team-high 12 digs and four blocks assists, Collings threw down seven kills, Johnson added four kills, four digs and four total blocks, and Tolan had 11 kdigs wtih a service ace.

All told, CSUSB fired a .407 attack effort with three solo blocks, 18 block assists and 50 digs.

The victory was CSUSB's 61st consecutive at Coussoulis, dating to the beginning of the 2008 season. And yes, that means that the four seniors who began as freshmen that season -- Carty, Johnson, Middleborn and Tolan -- went unbeaten at home in their Coyote careers -- another first for a senior class.

CSUEB closed the season at 16-11, 11-11. The Pioneers were led by Katie Allen's seven kills.
