CHICO -- Senior
Casey Hirsch has proven to be a known quantity in her four years with the Coyote program. She earned Honorable Mention All-CCAA honors in 2010 and has a reputation for being one of coach
Travis Clarke's fittest athletes.
And that's why it's gratifying to see the Yorba Linda native step up her game over the last four games -- all Coyote wins.
Hirsch fired a shot on a feed from junior Jani Carmona in the 88th minute for the game's only goal as the Coyotes improved their winning streak to four games with a 1-0 stunner over host Chico State in CCAA women's soccer Sunday afternoon.
The Coyotes improved to 6-5-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the CCAA and return home for their final six regular-season games at Coyote Premier Field. CSUSB begins the homestand Friday afternoon against CCAA South rival Cal State Dominguez Hills.
Hirsch, who has scored in each of CSUSB's last three games, owns the team lead in goals with six and 15 in her career. But it is safe to say this was the biggest shot of her career. It was more than a week ago that the Coyotes were reeling after losing four straight. Now with another streak that is much more to their liking, the Coyotes remain a threat for a CCAA Tourney bid.
Goalkeeper
Chelsey Jones earned her fourth straight victory since stepping into the starting role Sept. 30 against Cal State East Bay. Jones had three saves.
The Coyotes had 15 shots to Chico State's eight and had five SOG -- Carmona with three and Hirsch with two.
Chico State dropped to 5-4-3, 5-3-2.
