SAN FRANCISCO -- In a word, dismal would best summarize the first-half play that CSU San Bernardino produced in its game against San Francisco State on Friday night.
Trailing 34-20 against the Gators through the first 20 minutes, the Coyotes turned it around big-time behind
Angela Streets and
Eisha Sheppard as CSUSB earned a 64-54 victory in California Collegiate Athletic women's play.
Streets scored all of her 13 points in the second half and Sheppard pumped in 11 as the Coyotes improved to 14-2 overall and 10-2 in the CCAA. The victory was CSUSB's first at SFSU since the 2006-07 season.
The Coyotes fired 59.3 percent from the field and needed scoring from only four players in the decisive second half. Senior
Sabrina Gonzalez finished with 16 points, while Sheppard joined Streets with 13.
Amber Glasser added 11.
The Gators entered Friday's play at 1-15 overall and 1-11 in league play, but looked nothing like a team that was down-and-out. They built a 17-point lead on Michaela Booker's free throws that put the Gators up 33-16 with 2:59 left.
CSUSB was just 8 of 30 from the field in that half and SFSU was hot at the line, hitting 12 of 13 for its advantage.
SFSU led 38-22 with 18:31 left in the game before the Coyotes cut into the lead. Streets got the Coyotes moving with a 3-pointer and over the next four minutes, forced SFSU into seven turnovers and got to within 10 points twice.
The integral run began on Glasser's jumper with 13:47 left and the Coyotes down, 42-34. That basket triggered a 20-6 run after Sheppard's free throws put CSUSB ahead 52-48 with 4:49 remaining.
Glasser added five more points inside the final five minutes as CSUSB polished off the Gators with a 10-2 run.
Dominique Hunter led the Gators with 16 points.
The Coyotes will face league-leading CSU Monterey Bay on Saturday. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
