HAYWARD
-- Seniors Sabrina Gonzalez and Eisha Sheppard each scored 16 points as visiting Cal State San Bernardino routed Cal State East Bay 71-48 in Cailfornia Collegiate Athletic Association women's basketball Saturday night.

The Coyotes improved to 13-2 overall and 9-2 to complete the first half of CCAA play.

CSUSB didn't waste any time as it outscored the Pioneers 18-0 to begin the game. Gonzalez was unstoppable in that stretch with 11 points that included three 3-pointers.

After Briana Terrance's jumper stopped the run at the 11:56 mark, Gonzalez responded with another 3-pointer and totaled 14 points inside the game's first nine minutes.

CSUSB enjoyed leads as large as 23 points in the second half. It finished with its most complete game of the year, firing 49.1 percent from the floor (27-55), hit 42.9 percent from the 3-point stripe and hit 11 of 12 from the free throw line.

Defensively, the Pioneers (1-15, 1-11) were held to 32.1 percent from the floor. Lauren Lucchesi led her team with 15 points.

Lucceshi pulled her team to within seven points (42-35) with 12:37 left, but Sheppard answered right back with a layup that kick-started a 17-1 run in just less than four minutes and the Coyotes were up, 59-36 with 8:29 left.

CSUSB returns to the Bay Area next weekend with games at San Francisco State (Friday) and CSU Monterey Bay (Saturday).
