POMONA
-- Senior guard Eisha Sheppard tied game-high scoring honors with 22 points, but it wasn't enough as host Cal Poly Pomona struck with a critical run late in the second half and defeated the Coyotes 81-72 before a crowd of 441 at Kellogg Gym.

The loss snapped the Coyotes' winning streak at five games and they stand at 11-2 overall and 7-2  in the CCAA, while the Broncos increased their winning streak to six and improved to 11-2, 8-1.

The two rivals played an entertaining game as CSUSB shot 50 percent from the floor with less than 10 minutes left, but CPP's Sarah Semenero threw a dagger at the Coyotes defense and CSUSB couldn't recover.

Semenero scored 11 points -- all in the second half -- and delivered a big-time shot when she laced a 3-pointer that broke a 57-57 tie with 7:12 remaining.

That shot ignited the Broncos to a 10-0 run inside a two-minute stretch and they remained out front for the win.

CPP were three of four from field over the 1:50 spurt -- two field goals from La'kenya Simon-West -- and were aided by senior Reyana Colson's two free throws.

Both teams played in a playoff-type atmosphere as each shot the ball particularly well. CSUSB was 28 of 63 from the floor (44.4 percent) and CPP was 26 of 59 (44.1).

Angela Streets scored 13 points for CSUSB with four rebounds and five assists with one steal. Senior Sabrina Gonzalez came off the bench and scored 10 points with two 3-pointers, two assists and two steals.

The game was a match-up of two premier guards on the West Coast. Colson matched Sheppard's scoring effort with 22 points, seven assists and three steals.

The Coyotes return to the road on Thursday night when they face UC San Diego. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
