Box Score: Coyotes 66, CSU Stanislaus 47
SAN BERNARDINO -- Defense has been a big reason for the Cal State San Bernardino women's basketball team's success during this 2010-11 season. Saturday night's effort against Cal State Stanislaus proved that fact once again.
For the seventh time this season, the Coyotes forced their opponent into more turnovers (23) than field goals (17) and four players scored in double figures in CSUSB's 66-47 rout over the Warriors in California Collegiate Athletic Association play at Coussoulis Arena.
The Coyotes are now 11-1 overall and 7-1 in the CCAA and they have matched their best start since the 2007-08 team opened the year 11-1. That year also marks the last time the Coyotes earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.
Senior
Danielle Shows and junior
Amber Glasser each scored 14 points, while senior
Eisha Sheppard and junior
Angela Streets each had 13 held control for most of the game, and pulled away late.
Shows also had 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.
After CSUS's Jeanette Rowe tied the game at 34-34 with 13:30 left, the Coyotes found another gear, grabbed the lead and remained ahead.
Glasser's layup began a 15-2 run over a 4 1/2-minute stretch for a 49-36 advantage with 7:54 left and CSUSB didn't let its lead get less than nine.
Shows had five points in that decisive stretch and Streets had four as the Coyotes would finish the second half hitting 44.4 percent from the floor (12 of 27). They shot 37.9 percent from the game.
The Warriros were led by Katie Busi's gasme-high 16 points with 14 rebounds. Her teammate Andreanna Marshall added 10.
The Coyotes return to the court Tuesday night at Cal Poly Pomona in a battle for second place in the CCAA. The Broncos are 10-2 and 7-1 in the CCAA.
