No. 5 Coyotes extend CCAA unbeaten set streak to 18 with 3-0 win over Sonoma State

Coyotes prepare for three home matches this week beginning Wednesday night vs. Cal Poly Pomona

Samantha Middleborn played one of her finest all-round matches Saturday night with six service aces, three solo blocks, three block assists and an attack percentage of .400 vs. Sonoma State.

All-Americans Jane Chafeh and Samantha Middleborn paved the way Saturday night as the No. 5-ranked Coyotes pushed their unbeaten CCAA set unbeaten streak to 18 with a 3-0 victory over host Sonoma State.

CSUSB, now 9-1 overall and 6-0 in the CCAA, face a busy week as it plays host to Cal Poly Pomona (Wednesday), Chico State (Friday) and Cal State Stanislaus (Saturday).

Chafeh was 11-1-20 on the attack and Middleborn was a hefty 10-4-15 (.400) as the Coyotes fired off a cumulative .383 attack percentage (39 kills, eight errors in 81 attacks.

Middleborn added six service aces in the 25-14, 25-13, 25-16 victory that lasted a little more than an hour.

In Game 1, Middleborn threw down a kill that pushed the Coyotes to an 8-1 lead and they were never threatened. They ran off a 6-0 run thanks to three Seawolves attack errors, an ace from Morgan Carty and another kill from Middleborn.

Game 2 continued the Coyotes' success as Chafeh offered two kills, Middleborn had a kill and a service ace as CSUSB pulled away with another six-point run to lead 9-2 and kept the cushion in a comfortable margin.

Three times the Seawolves' cut CSUSB's lead in Game 3 to  within two points. But with the score 17-15 CSUSB, Middleborn fired off a streak of three aces and the Coyotes went on to the victory.

Camille Smith had 29 assists on the night, while Kelcie Tolan led with nine digs. Middleborn was solid on the block with three solo blocks and three block assists.
