SAN BERNARDINO — Alyssa Flores went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored and hit a pair of home runs as Cal State San Bernardino split a doubleheader with UC San Diego, losing the opener 5-1 before winning the nightcap 7-4.

The split takes the Coyotes to 26-26 overall and 18-15 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association. Combine the split with a Chico State sweep of Cal State Stanislaus Friday and Saturday and that eliminates CSUSB from CCAA Tournament contention.

Flores drove in the only run in the opener with a lead off home run to start the bottom of the second. That run put the Coyotes on top 1-0, but UCSD answered with two in the top of the third and one each in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to put it away.

The Coyotes matched the Tritons hit for hit with eight each, but Camille Gaito was able to scatter CSUSB's hits while picking up the win. Cassidy Lee (9-7) took the loss for Coyotes.

Flores also hit a solo shot in the nightcap to lead off the third. Courtney Wilhelms put CSUSB up 2-0 with her second home run of the season, in the second, before Flores hit her third of the year to give the Coyotes the 3-0 lead. Wilhelms then singled to right later in the third to drive home Ashley Collinwood to put CSUSB up 4-0.

Flores picked up her second RBI of the game with a sac fly to right in the fourth before a Felicia Cervantes single to right scored Jamie Leffingwell as the Coyotes got out to a 6-0 lead.

UCSD got a run back in the top of the fifth with a solo home run by Rhiannon Ousley, but the Coyotes answered when Jacquelyn Holtzclaw ripped a single up the middle to put CSUSB on top 7-1.

The Tritons tried to rally in the top of the seventh with a one-out, three-run bomb by Kris Lesovsky, but Brianne Godfredson capped her complete game by holding off the charge. Godfredson moved to 10-6 on the year after allowing four runs on eight hits.

Gaito took the loss falling to 17-10.

Britney Butler was 3-for-3 in the nightcap and 5-for-7 in the doubleheader. Collinwood and Wilhelms each went 3-for-4 in the second game with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

The two teams will conclude the series tomorrow with a noon doubleheader.
