SEASIDE --- Cal State San Bernardino pitchers
Brianne Godfredson and
Carly Land combine for a three-hit shutout against Cal State Monterey Bay, as the Coyotes split Saturday's doubleheader, winning the first game 2-0, before getting run-ruled 10-2 in the second game.
Godfredson (3-2) allowed just three hits and struck out two in five innings of work while Land picked up her first save of the season, throwing the final two innings.
Jamie Leffingwell went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI and
Felicia Cervantes went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
The Coyotes scored first when Leffingwell laced a double down the left field line that scored
Stefanie Pace in the second. CSUSB added another run when Cervantes singled to left center to score
Alex Mitchell. That was all the support the Coyotes needed as Godfredson and Land slammed the door.
In the second half of the doubleheader, CSUSB struck first when Justin smacked an RBI single up the middle to score Land in the second inning. But the CSUMB bats woke up in its half of the inning and the Otters took the lead 4-1. The Otters scored another four runs in the third on a grand slam by Niki Ames to take an 8-1 lead. CSUMB added two more runs in the fourth to lead 10-1.
The Coyotes tried to rally when Curiel tripled to right center to score
Jacquelyn Holtzclaw, but that was all CSUSB could score as the Otters ended the contest in five innings.
Land (0-6) took the loss while Nicole Garcia (4-1) notched the victory for CSUMB.
Curiel went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI and Holtzclaw went 1-for-3. The pair is tied for the team hits lead at twenty hits each.
The Coyotes, now 7-12 overall and 6-6 in the CCAA, return home for a doubleheader Wednesday against Dixie State (Utah) at 1 p.m. San Francisco State then comes to town for doubleheaders Friday at 1 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m.
