BELMONT — The ball must carry well or the air is really clear in Belmont because Cal State San Bernardino hit four home runs, two of which were grand slams, in a 5-0, 12-6 sweep of Notre Dame de Namur.

Ashley Collinwood and Stefanie Pace each hit a grand slam while Collinwood hit a home run in each game as 12 of the combined 18 runs that the Coyotes (19-20) scored came from home runs.

Collinwood's grand slam in the opener was all the offense CSUSB needed as Brianne Godfredson (7-4) and Erica Prentice combined for a two-hit shutout.

Godfredson allowed just one hit and struck out four through the first five innings before Prentice tossed the final two, allowing just one hit.

After the Argonauts recorded the first two outs of the game, Priscilla Curiel ripped a single before Felicia Cervantes was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second. The two were pushed up to second and third on a wild pitch and Courtney Wilhelms drew a walk to load the bases, setting the stage for Collinwood's grand slam.

Jamie Leffingwell drove in the other run in the fourth for the Coyotes with a double to score Wilhelms who reached on an error to lead off in the inning.

Collinwood was 1-for-3 while Leffingwell went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Vanessa Justin recorded the other hit for CSUSB, going 1-for-3.

NDNU took an early lead in the nightcap with a solo home run in the bottom of the first, but another grand slam by the Coyotes started to dig a deep hole for the Argonauts. After three straight one-out singles by Collinwood, Wilhelms and Leffingwell loaded the bases, Pace launched a grand slam to put the Coyotes up 4-1 in the top of the second. CSUSB put it away in the third with four more runs. Jacquelyn Holtzclaw tripled to lead off the inning before two straight NDNU errors scored her and put two runners on. Collinwood then delivered with her second home run of the day, and fourth of the year, to give the Coyotes an 8-1 lead.

Butler hit a solo home run in the top of the fourth to make it 9-1 as CSUSB added one run in each of the final four innings. The Argonauts scored two in the fifth and three in the sixth, but Cassidy Lee (6-4) and Godfredson kept them far enough at bay. Godfredson picked up her first save of the year, throwing the final one and a third innings while striking out three.

Collinwood was 2-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored while Leffingwell was a perfect 4-for-4.

The Coyotes now travel to Chico State for a pair of doubleheader Friday and Saturday.
